SECTION 1
ABSTRACT
Inertial dampeners form the backbone of Grandhold equipment and safety systems. They designed to be reliable and fault-tolerant.
SECTION 2
SUMMARY
The inertial dampener is a multi-function stress protection system capable of dissipating kinetic forces and reinforcing molecular bonds to protect against the vast majority of structural failures.
Most inertial dampeners are paired with a dedicated thermal eliminator and antimatter battery to guarentee continual operation in the event power supply or centralized heat management systems fail.
SECTION 3
HISTORY
The inertial dampener (often referred to as dampener) was developed on date [2226-1-1] by the Aeterna Machina corporation to enhance the ability of heavy-duty machinery to handle immense stresses, especially for fallback structures.
Early inertial dampeners were very large and power-hungry, and were thus used exclusively by large structures such as ultra-heavy industrial equipment, larger space vehicles, and similarly large structures. Over time, the technology was improved and miniaturized and became more integrated into smaller things. By date [3411-8-14], miniaturization and power storage systems had progressed far enough that inertial dampeners could be reasonably installed in almost anything. The inertial dampener's use had spread to becoming a general safety system, most notably integrated into constructor and logistian equipment to ensure failures in other safety systems would risk little harm. Power consumption still remained high, limiting how long a portable inertial dampener could operate.
Improvements in antimatter storage on date [5286-12-28] enabled cell-powered inertial dampeners to run for long periods of time, increasing their usage in portable systems drastically. Further improvements in antimatter storage and production over the following decamillennia further increased the economic viability of portable inertial dampeners, until they became part of almost every comonent of every single non-inert object by date [12,896-7-18] coinciding with the final breakthrough in antimatter production.
After the formation of the Defense division, inertial dampeners have been integrated heavily to enhance armor systems and generally maximize the effectiveness of Societal Defense soldiers, vehicles, and installations.
