Background

The MDJPA-1 "Periphary" is a lightweight strikecraft designed with the sole intent on moving away from its predecessor, the Rushdown's, crippling flaws. It is designed to operate from carriers, which its peer (and primary successor to the Rushdown) is incapable of. The Periphary trades payload capacity for superior maneuverability compated to said peer, which lends it an edge in carrier defense.

Unlike the Redeemer, the Periphary's development took its time, with the Rushdown continuing to serve a role in carrier deployments until its own completion. As such, it was allowed to improve upon some of the few initial shortcomings of the Redeemer.

The lesson: slow and steady wins the race...sometimes.
