SECTION 1
BACKGROUND

Born on the less-hospitable world of Helsquarid, the Fennis are an old people who've lasted since well before the Zenith War. They evolved on a continent-sized plains, living in packs with designated leaders who ensured predation was evaded. Agriculture pushed the Fennis into full sapience, and from there the psychological split in their species never went away. Across history, every great leader belonged to the Leader caste, though not all were born as one.

Early Fennis nations had a paradoxical dichotomy between internal and external operations; their people were largely cohesive and cooperative, like most class-4 species, while their leadership was consistently ambitious and aggressive; like most class-6 species. There were a small number of times the Fennis species could have destroyed itself, though Leaders' more destructive tendencies were kept in check by the Civil majority.

The spacefaring Fennis Republic came to temper its aggression, adopting a more scheming demeanour which avoided overt aggression and preferred subtle manipulation to get what it wanted.

SECTION 2
ABOUT HOMEWORLD

Continental world with four continents, each with their own biomes connected via large island chains; plains, forest, tropical, artic.

The most populated part of Helsqiarid is the plains continent.

SECTION 3
RACIAL TRAITS

  • Psychological Castes: Fennis are, psychologically, divided into two groups, determined at birth; Leader caste, and Civil caste. Intense stress in Civils can trigger a psychological mechanism which causes them to spontaneously 'convert' into Leaders.
    • Leaders (the minority) are adaptable and charismatic, but are also susceptible to burnout and tunnel-vision. They excel in times of crisis, when fast and bold change is needed.
    • Civils (the majority) are resistant to stress and communally-minded, but are also susceptible to complacency and groupthink. They excel in times of stability, when it is best that everyone relax and focus on living.
  • Herbivorous: Obligate herbivores.
  • Runners: Capable of moving at high speeds for long periods of time. They have a nasty kick.
  • Perceptive: Sight, hearing, and smell are highly sensitive.
  • Stilled Hourglass: Matures and ages at 2/3 the rate of most species, extending them considerable longevity.
