The Spherical Lateal Society is an international organization headquartered in the Ginrilli Federation, a micropower whose laws and political standing make it an ideal home for internationally-focused organizations. It represents the single largest group of individuals who believe in the 'spherical galaxy' theory; that the Milky Way is not a disc-like object, but instead an elliptical galaxy.
The SLS perpetuates the ideas that the official galactic map is entirely false, that all navigation and other space-related software and equipment pretend to its users that the galaxy is flat while secretly navigating in the 'true' spherical map, and that all governments in the galaxy are part of a conspiracy hiding the true nature of the Milky Way, and many more theories to lend any amount of validity to the spherical galaxy model.
The spherical galaxy theory is based off of an incomplete understanding of 3D space believing that, like planets and stars form spherical objects, the galaxy should also be a spherical object. Furthermore, it is also a common belief that orbits should be chaotic. The common explanation for why orbits are mostly among a plane is that the galaxy's system-orbits were intentionally changed in the distant past to also be in one plane.
Just like flat planet beliefs, there is no true good explanation as to why a false model of the galaxy is perpetuated, or why anyone would even bother attempting such an easily disprovable lie like that on a galactic scale.
The Grandhold of Abyss is the only (non-hivemind) nation in the galaxy not to have even a single long-term believer in the spherical galaxy theory, due in part to the Grandhold's mandatory enhancements preventing the low level of intelligence necessary to genuinely believe in the Milky Way being elliptical.
