Background
The HASI-1 "Skyshield" is a purpose-built interceptor designed with a high speed and altitude limit. Its purpose is to intercept high-altitude bombers and other high-speed/high-altitude aircraft.
Composed of about 80% of a ferrotitanium alloy, 20% aluminum, and equipped with two large engines, the Skyshield is capable of reaching great heights quickly. It can reach a maximum speed of Mach 2.9; the fastest speed of any two-engine aircraft when it was first drafted.
Its service was originally planned to end in 1999, but it was extended during 90s global tensions to maintain military readiness.
